Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

Breast lift surgery is performed to correct issues such as sagging, deformity, or ptosis that occur over time. Factors like aging, pregnancy, breastfeeding, genetic predisposition, and weight fluctuations can affect the shape and position of the breasts. Breast lift surgery is preferred to address these issues and achieve a more youthful, fuller appearance.

Causes

The main causes of breast sagging include:

• Aging: As the skin loses its elasticity with age, it can lead to sagging of the breasts.
• Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: During pregnancy, breast tissue expands, and after birth, the skin may become loose.
• Weight Fluctuations: Rapid weight loss or gain can affect the structure of the breast tissue.
• Genetic Factors: Family history may play a role in the tendency for sagging due to breast tissue structure.

Surgical Process

Breast lift surgery typically involves the following steps:

• Consultation and Planning:
  • The patient’s expectations and the goals of the surgery are determined.
  • The surgeon recommends appropriate techniques and methods.
• Surgical Procedure:
  • The procedure is performed under anesthesia and generally takes 1.5 to 3 hours.
  • To correct sagging, excess tissue is removed from the upper part of the breast, and the nipple is repositioned higher.
  • Surgical techniques vary based on the degree of sagging and the patient’s body type.
  • Periareolar Technique: A method that involves making incisions around the areola, resulting in minimal scarring.
  • Lollipop Technique: Involves a vertical incision from the nipple downward; suitable for more significant sagging.
  • T-Incision: Used when more tissue needs to be removed and includes a vertical incision along with a horizontal incision beneath the breast.
• Recovery Process:
  • Patients are typically discharged the same day, though they are advised to rest for a few days.
  • Swelling and bruising are normal, and the recovery process generally lasts a few weeks.
  • Stitches are usually removed within 1-2 weeks, and scars will gradually fade after the wound has healed.
